After neglecting my blog for way too long, I decided this was an excellent place to start updating. These are some photos from a newborn photo session I did just outside of Calgary yesterday of possibly the world's most photogenic family (although they claim to not be photogenic...have a look and just judge for yourself!)

Thanks M&G for allowing me to capture these images with you yesterday; I hope you enjoy your sneak preview. And also thanks for the great prop ideas, they were really fun and I'll share the rest of the shots with you soon!

I thought the colours and the design were so calming and classic The texture of this throw was incredible...I couldn't stop touching it!

Since seeing this room I think I've now developed 'low host self-esteem'. There is no way my guest bedroom lives up to this!!

Happy Valentine's Day 2009!

I know it's not really Valentine's Day 2009 but the last time I saw this baby's parents was at their wedding on February 14th, 2009 when I took photos for the bridal party at the hair salon (a very fun time!). It seems to be the week for taking baby photos of wedding clients! I really love the fact that this job allows me to follow families through the different stages of their lives.

This little boy stayed awake throughout the entire 2 hour session which is something I've never had happen before! So alert, yet only two weeks old!

I normally am slightly partial to black and white baby photos, but this little guy's skintone was so amazing that I wanted to share some colour photos.

L&B...thanks for allowing me the pleasure of meeting Marshall and I hope you like the images from this sneak preview.....there will be many more to come when I post your online proofing album in a few weeks.

Determined Little Dylan

I had the pleasure of shooting this couple's wedding almost two years ago and yesterday I was thrilled to photograph their baby boy Dylan. If you know this family then you know Dylan's story and you'll know why I titled this posted 'Determined Little Dylan'. This little guy is tough... a real little fighter, and I was so very pleased to meet him and to see his parents again.

Dylan is doing great and his parents are so so blessed to have such a wonderful little man in their lives. It was nice to see Dylan's grandma Sharon again too.

This little guy is two weeks old and can we say "c.u.t.e."!!! His biggest dilemna in life is whether or not he should be cheering for Team USA (with daddy) or Team Canada (with mommy). Winter in Calgary can be long, especially on the days that the kids are out of school. It seems that my days of late have revolved around ice.....keeping our backyard skating rink in tip top shape, and freezing a lot of blocks of ice for the Inukshuk activity I helped my kids do today.

Christmas card season and blogging neglect. Calgary Family Photographer

I am only one client away from being DONE my Christmas sessions and I can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel!

I am so behind on my blogging (and my apologies to all of those customers who didn't have their sessions highlighted on my blog....there is really no excuse other than lack of time!). It was either getting your Christmas cards to you on time or having a nice blog photo up...and I think Christmas cards were the best choice!

I thought I would share with you some of my personal family shots from this year. We did them just in time...right before the big snowfall. One of my kids is usually in a pose that involves frowning, scowling, talking, or putting their hands in front of their faces, so the fact that I have these particular images is like finding a lost treasure for me! I'm very happy with their behaviour this year and they were justly rewarded with hot chocolate and popcorn upon our return to the house.

Go Riders Go!!!! Calgary Newborn Photographer

I'm not sure this little guy was really too concerned about the fate of the Riders today, although I am very surprised his dad (aka Ultimate Riders' Fan) was around for the photos instead of watching the Western Semi Finals today. Daddy thought a photo of this babe inside a watermelon would have been perfectly themed, but (unfortunately?) watermelons are not in season right now. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, just ask anyone from Saskatchewan and they will gladly fill you in.

Sleeping like only a five day old baby can.....
I love that he already has a repertoire of expressions and poses.....has he seen Zoolander?

Here is big sister. I almost took her home with me today. Seriously. I am in love with this little girl! I really would haven stolen her if the parents weren't watching.

How cute can they get? Calgary family photographer

There is something about brown hair and blue eyes that I absolutely love. Blue eyes are so sparkly to start with, but there is something about being brunette with brown eyes that is so very magical. This family braved a moderately cold morning at the park with me and they were so fun and playful that I could have followed them around all day. They managed to convince me that they actually did have to stop and eat at some point during the day (Vietnamese food was mentioned) so I reluctantly put away the camera and let them go about their business.

http://suehomikphotography.com/I have always found the strong friendships that develop between same-sex siblings very interesting, and I got the feeling that these boys are going to grow up to be great friends. The mom was a little nervous to let the older son hold the newborn but it turned out great. When I look at the picture of them together I can see a lot of love and pride in the older son's eyes. Or maybe it was just the result of the awesome new train set that his baby brother bought for him as a 'big brother gift'....who says bribery doesn't work?! Enjoy this time D&J, it goes so fast! hip and cool baby

After last night's windstorm I was worried the leaves would have fallen off the trees but as you can see from today's photos and the amount of green still on the trees, there will be at least two more weeks of fall photo opportunities left. This baby's parents are a lot of fun, and this little girl is one of the most cool babies I've photographed! We shot for 90 minutes and she did not cry once. Not even once! And that was despite us waking her up after the car ride to the park! Now that is what I call calm, cool and collected! We had a great time today with the kids; autumn is all about playing on the trees and romping in the leaves. I have known this family since their son was a few weeks old, and have been taking photos of them every year since. Here are three kids who get along! My boys argue and fight all day long (or at least it seems that way) so it was a pleasure to spend some time this afternoon with kids who were nice to each other! Maybe there is something magic in the boy-girl-boy order? Their mom and dad should be very proud of their children... they are absolutely lovely. Fall is here and the colours are getting more lovely every day. The prairie grasses are breath-taking right now and the trees have started to change colour, which makes it the perfect time for family portraits. Great great grandma's ring. Calgary newborn photographer

This family had a wonderful idea for a photo and brought along a very precious ring, which belonged at one time to this baby's great-great grandmother. Baby S was a few weeks early and is the first baby I have photographed who was small enough to fit into this lovely bamboo bowl I have been packing around from photo shoot to photo shoot for the past six months. Lucky for us, because this photo in the bamboo bowl is one of my favourite newborn images yet.

A home filled with love

Paige is only five days old and I can already tell that she will be growing up in a home filled with a lot of love. She is adorable and I was in awe watching the way her parents held her and spoke to her in a way that only new parents who are complete in love with their daughter can do.

Paige is a quiet beauty, and I'm honoured that I had the chance to meet her and photograph her at such a special time.

The really big question is Canucks or Flames!

This little guy's dad is a Canuck's fan, but mom is a born and bred Calgarian so of course sits more in the Flame's camp. Dad thinks this little guy may have a hockey future ahead of him but I can't help but wonder what would happen if he was drafted by somebody other than the Canucks?! It probably doesn't matter anyway, because the way he was moving his arms around convinced his mom and I that he's really more of a baseball pitcher anyway.

It's a boy!

I say 'it's a boy' because I have had a lovely time taking photos of baby girls this summer but the little boys have been few and far between. I have been waiting to try my new baby blue elf hat out on someone and baby Scott was the first to try it out! He is five weeks old, but because he was a bit early his due date wasn't actually until the day after these photos were taken. He is growing and gaining weight really quickly and was such a great sport for all of the torment we put him through for his photo shoot.

Meet Baby Annabelle. Annabelle's parents were beginning to wonder if she'd ever make an appearance, but here she is! From these pictures it would appear that she loves to sleep but she was actually awake and happy to be here through most of the photo session. Annabelle has a very strong dislike of hats, so we had to sneak these onto her after she was in dreamland then pull them off again before she woke up angry. I discovered the hard way that hats make Annabelle very angry. I find angry babies quite funny; they are so determined to let you know that you've done something wrong! I can't believe that it was already one year ago that I had the pleasure of doing Olivia's newborn portraits for her parents and that now she is celebrating her first birthday! These photos were taken on the day of her birthday, a couple of hours before her party and Olivia was a great sport for the photo shoot....letting us change her clothes and otherwise torture her in a variety of poses! This beautiful woman has another month to go before the arrival of their baby girl. Just a guess, but I'm thinking that this little girl will be gorgeous too! This couple is so excited about their first baby it was a pure joy to spend the morning with them. I took these photos the week that she was taking her husband (a Toronto boy!) to his first rodeo at the Calgary Stampede; I hope he liked it!

Baby V's mom and dad tried really, really, really hard to put her to sleep for the photo session, but she already has a mind of her own and was having no part of it! I think it's great that's she's so attentive! She was four weeks old on the day the photos were taken, and she seemed so alert and focused for a small newborn! Her mom and dad are really cool too! A Little Girl and Bouncing Curls! Calgary child photographer

It's finally green outside! Actually it is supposed to snow tomorrow but that's what the May long weekend is all about. I'm really happy that we chose today to do engagement pictures for this very happy couple. She is a very talented landscape designer and I really enjoyed learning the names of a lot of the plants and trees in the park today. Emma and Josh's family

Emma and Josh's mom and dad thought family photos would be a great idea. Emma didn't think so at first and I have some incredibly cute pictures of the back of her head from the beginning of the photo shoot. However, it didn't take long for her to warm up to the camera and start doing those poses that only adorable 3 year old girls can do! All Dogs go to Heaven: Spunkee 1993-2009

At least I know that this little guy is in a better place. This is my dog Spunkee, he passed in his sleep last night. He had a great life and was with me for over 16 years. I taught him so many tricks that I honestly couldn't think of one more thing to teach him....he was a smart little dog. I will really miss him.

Meet baby Carson. He is just 10 days old and I'm positive he was smiling for the camera. I feel very lucky that I was able to capture it on film. Springtime??

These are not the types of pictures that your mind imagines when I say "spring photos" but this was one of my last photoshoots in the spring snow. Although most of us don't really like the spring snowstorms, the results are really beautiful in photos! This family was a lot of fun to photograph; their older son was an absolute ham for the camera. And check out the beautiful 'baby blues' on the little guy...he is going to have the girls melting when they look into those eyes!! These are some of my favourite images from their session.

I had the pleasure of photographing a nice couple and their beautiful baby girl last weekend. I just couldn't get enough of her chubby little baby legs and arms. Take a look. If these pictures don't make you say 'ahhhhh' I don't know what will!! She is such a happy little baby: I took pictures for an hour straight without so much as a pout out of her.
